OUR FBC MEMBER COVENANT
HAVING been brought, as we trust, by the Holy Spirit to give ourselves up to God as the supreme object of affection, and to embrace the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and Redeemer, we do now enter into solemn covenant engagement with each other, relying upon divine grace to enable us to perform our vows.
We promise, in the truth and sincerity of our hearts, as the Lord shall enable us, to forsake the paths of sin and walk in the ways of holiness, all the days of our lives.
We will endeavor to subdue all those evil dispositions and practices which are contrary to the precepts and spirit of the Gospel, to deny ourselves of ungodliness and every worldly lust, and to live soberly, righteously and godly in the world.
We engage to regard each other’s temporal and spiritual welfare, to walk together in brotherly love, to exercise a Christian care and watchfulness over each other, administering or receiving admonition or reproof, as the c ase may require, with all meekness and affection, forbearing one another and forgiving one another.
We engage to regard with tenderness each other’s reputation, to watch our lips and not spread evil one of another, to rejoice in each other’s joys, to sympathize in each other’s sorrows, to visit each other as we may be able in sickness, and minister according to our ability to each other’s wants.
We will submit ourselves to the government and discipline of the Church, agreeably to the teaching of our Savior and His Apostles, aiming to have our hearts possessed in this, as in all other duties with the spirit of our divine Redeemer.
We promise, by the grace of God, affectionately to walk together in the fellowship of the Church, faithfully to observe the ordinances which Christ has appointed for the Church, constantly and devoutly to attend the public and social worship of the church, and to pay according to our several ability for the support of that worship and for the spread of the Gospel throughout the world.
In humble reliance upon the grace of God we take upon us these covenant vows, with fervent prayer that our union may promote our piety and usefulness on earth, and thus contribute to our preparation for that blessed world where love and joy shall be perfect forever.
